I have been counselling for over 21 years with several counselling agencies (Relationships Australia, Interrelate, LifeCare and Salvos Counselling) as well as working in my own counselling business. I am fully accredited as a Clinical (senior) Member of PACFA, Australia’s peak body for counsellors and psychotherapists, and am an accredited supervisor with them.
I specialise in working with adults who have difficulty with settling themselves or soothing themselves, and with adults who have experienced childhood trauma and abuse. This has been a special area of interest since I began counselling, and I have worked with dissociative disorders and complex trauma over the years.
I have extensive experience in working with couples and often use Emotionally Focussed Therapy, depending on the couples’ needs. Sandplay has also been a way I have used to help clients access thoughts, feelings and experiences without the use of words. Some clients prefer to work this way, others prefer to chat. Writing about counselling has been a part of my work for many years: you can access some of that writing in my Articles section here
Since 2005 I have provided clinical supervision to counsellors, health workers, community workers, managers, Brighter Futures workers, trainee counsellors and others. I have a special interest in supervising therapists who are dealing with complex trauma, relational trauma and dissociation. I am currently working on two counselling books, the first of which will be released soon.
I have experience working with many issues including:
- anxiety and depression
- self-esteem and confidence
- grief and loss
- relationship problems
- trauma/childhood sexual abuse
- Dissociation/ Dissociative disorders
- PTSD/ Complex PTSD
